Since this article was published (2005) a lot of things happened on the area of “online operating systems”. A good example of what is currently possible by using pure JavaScript can be found at http://www.oos.cc The OOS (”online operating system”) as it is called offers features like file sharing, photo albums, personal homepage, multimedia, etc.
